Harbor envisions—and is building—a world where technology supports you safely monitoring your children and actively helps you care for them, lowering your stress and improving your sleep: Calmly, confidently, and securely.

Harbor connects parents with trained professionals via our Remote Night Nanny for unprecedented, all night care that’s never been possible at scale before. Technology enhances our human experts to make your nights more peaceful and your sleep more restful.

Somehow, despite so many advances in technology, parents sleep less, stress more, and work harder. The progress promised by 21st-century tech-enabled baby monitors hasn’t arrived: Reliability has gone down, and sorting the signal from the noise makes added data collection into added work, not actionable advice.

Harbor is built for reliability from the ground up, on the premise that peace of mind is the foundation of improved sleep—and we're unique in our approach of using AI at the edge to augment human caretaking instead of replacing it.

Unlike systems that require distant, unknown servers to process and store your sensitive footage, Harbor ensures all data analysis takes place inside your home, on the device itself. This provides unparalleled privacy, lightning-fast reliability, and the kind of actionable insights that transform parenting from reactive worry to proactive care.

What if your child’s monitor didn’t just notify you about crying but could detect subtle changes in their behavior and patterns—a change you couldn’t hear but that signals an early respiratory issue? What if, within moments, you could connect with a pediatrician, share the information, and receive an actionable treatment plan—all without compromising your family’s privacy? This is not science fiction. This is what Harbor will soon offer. Importantly, rather than dystopian baby biometrics that serve no purpose other than to alarm parents, Harbor will offer integrated proactive alerts to help parents and support pediatric analysis. We will never engage in the fear based marketing of today’s baby biometric companies.

Through advancements in AI-powered video and sound analysis, our roadmap includes features like child detection, sleep analysis, safety monitoring, and meaningful audio insights—all processed locally on the edge. Whether it’s alerting you when your toddler attempts to climb out of their crib or distinguishing between a playful giggle and a concerning cough, Harbor is designed to support parents in the moments that matter most.

For too long, technology in the parenting space has focused on raising alarms or selling data, feeding anxiety rather than building trust. Harbor is turning this model on its head. By combining privacy-first edge processing with optional telehealth integration, we are creating a system that not only empowers parents but also ushers in a new era of child-centered care.

Harbor is so much more than a product—it’s a mission. A mission to leverage technology as a tool for empowerment, not intrusion or fear. A mission to bring some sanity and lots of sleep back to every parent, every night, for every child. This is the future of parenting.

This is Harbor.

Revolutionizing Child Monitoring through Edge-Based Advanced Analysis: What's Now and What's Next

Harbor is a mission. A mission to leverage technology as a tool for empowerment, not intrusion or fear. A mission to bring some sanity and lots of sleep back to every parent, every night, for every child.

With two powerful categories—Edge-Based Advanced Video Analysis and Edge-Based Advanced Audio Analysis—we’re creating a system that doesn’t just let you monitor your children but actively supports parents in proactive care. Harbor is the copilot that parents could never have dreamed of. Unlike every other system available to parents today, Harbor is privacy first and relentlessly focused on helping parents and kids get more sleep safely.

What do we mean by Edge-Based? All analysis is done by the Camera itself (the edge of our technology), not the cloud—ensuring data privacy, reliability, and speed. This is only possible because of the advanced chips and our proprietary system design, enabling all of this to be done offline rather than forcing 100% of user footage through company servers, like every other WiFi camera system. We will use the phrase "Edge-Based" often to ensure it’s clear how our approach is fundamentally different from other products.

Most other baby monitors that offer ‘AI’ or ‘insights’ rely on cloud-based processing, sending your child’s video & audio data to remote servers. This approach comes with risks:

    • Unknown Servers: Your data is sent to third-party servers, often without transparency about who manages them, where they are, or how they’re used.
    • Security Vulnerabilities: Remote storage and processing can heighten the risk of your child’s data being exposed to unauthorized access.
    • Privacy Concerns: Cloud systems can often retain and repurpose your data, often without your explicit knowledge.
    • Your Data is Their Profit: some companies use user data to train their algorithms or sell insights to third parties

Even when Harbor uses cloud processing—for optional opt-in services like the Remote Night Nanny and telehealth—we ensure full transparency by informing parents how the data is used, how it’s secured, and when it will be deleted.

Edge-Based Advanced Video Analysis

January 2024: Child Detection

Launching in January, Edge-Based Child Detection will enable the system to recognize your child in the camera’s view for more contextual and precise alerts.

  • Child Identification: Detects and tracks your child in the frame, enabling smarter motion and activity-based notifications.

Early 2025: Sleep Analysis

Shortly after, we’ll launch Edge-Based Sleep Analysis, delivering actionable insights into your child’s rest.

  • Nightly Summaries: Understand your child’s sleep patterns with details on when they fell asleep, woke up, and the total duration of sleep.
  • Sleep Insights: Identify patterns and disruptions to improve your child’s rest and well-being. Customers can choose to engage with our professional night nurse staff for feedback and coaching should they want additional support.
  • Timelapse Videos: Morning recaps make it easy to review your child’s activity overnight in a concise video format.

Mid-2025: Safety Monitoring

Expanding on child detection, Edge-Based Safety Monitoring features will proactively identify risks and notify parents of potentially dangerous situations.

  • Unsafe Position Alerts: Notifications for face coverings, head tilts, or other unsafe sleep positions.
  • Climbing Detection: Immediate alerts when your child attempts to climb out of their crib, helping to prevent accidents before they happen.

Edge-Based Advanced Audio Analysis

Early 2025: Sound Identification

The Harbor Camera will soon distinguish between your child talking, crying, or coughing to enable smarter audio alerts and notifications. Many current baby monitor systems that highlight child noises group nearly all sounds together into “cry,” rendering the insights meaningless.

Early 2025: Wake-Word Detection

Introducing Edge-Based Wake-Word Detection, making it effortless to preserve special moments as they happen.

  • "Harbor, save that": By saying the wake-word, the system captures key moments—like a baby’s first word or giggle—and then texts the moment directly to your phone for sharing.

Mid-2025: Diagnostic Audio Insights

Building on our sound recognition capabilities, we’ll launch Diagnostic Audio Insights to deliver real-time health assessments based on sound patterns.

  • Comprehensive Sound Analysis: Detect a range of sounds, including coughing, wheezing, and irregular breathing.
  • Health-Driven Notifications: Receive alerts for patterns indicative of potential health concerns, such as respiratory issues, complete with a confidence score.
  • Proactive Healthcare: Data can be securely shared with Harbor pediatric healthcare providers (licensed doctors), facilitating early diagnosis and faster treatment plans.

Diagnostics and Beyond: A Unified Approach to Monitoring

Imagine a baby monitor that doesn’t just let you look and listen but can, with your permission, act on your behalf. By mid-2025, our system will combine our advanced analysis capabilities into the framework for a seamless diagnostic tool that supports proactive parenting and healthcare via comprehensive telehealth.

  • Holistic Insights: Integrate motion, image, and sound data to provide a complete picture of your child’s health and activity. For example:
    • Persistent coughs identified through audio are correlated with increased restlessness or changes in breathing detected through video analysis.
    • Persistent or irregular snoring or wakeups can notify parents of potential underlying issues such as problematic adenoids or tonsils.
    • Notifications offer confidence scores, possible health concerns, and recommended next steps.
  • Healthcare Integration: Harbor pediatricians can confirm diagnoses and prescribe treatments based on the data sent from the camera. This optional service is the only non-edge-based component of the system, designed for those who want immediate access to expert care.

Why Are We Building This?

In early 2024, one of our engineers noticed his daughter breathing more heavily than usual, though he couldn’t detect the difference with his own ears. The Harbor Camera, however, picked up the change distinctly. It turned out she had a serious respiratory issue that required immediate medical intervention. This moment sparked a realization: if the camera could detect subtle changes like this missed by in tune parents, what else could it identify?

This experience inspired us to push the boundaries of what’s possible—a paradigm shift in child monitoring. Harbor was born from a commitment to empower parents with technology that doesn’t just monitor but actively supports their child’s health and safety. We hope you find inspiration in this roadmap and share in the excitement for what our technology will soon make possible.
